Liz and Derek both have a background in the field of social work. Both trained as Probation Officers, and while Liz ran the first Victim Support scheme in the UK, and went on to pioneering work with 'lifers' in the Education Department, in Leyhill Prison, Derek worked in mental health and has promoted mental health and recovery for many years. They bring a unique blend of interest and experience to carers, and family members, who have come to the Thomas Shop for Respite.

There has been no structure to the Respite as everyone who comes is treated as an individual in their own right. What is offered is a listening ear, good food, and hope for a more positive future.

Respite comes with full-board and packages are worked out to suit each circumstance.
